It was always my desire to know what goes on within the MBA classrooms, for I was fascinated by the concept of management. I had always known and believed that management was nothing more than proper usage of common sense with loads of jargon and theories. My belief was somewhat confirmed the other day when the Prof conceded that management is indeed common sense and they are just trying to tell us how to use common sense more efficiently. The background goes something like this: She was telling us about Human Resource Management in an organization (not a company - usage of jargon you see), where she explained what a manager is supposed to do and what are his duties/responsibilities. While throughout the lecture I was wondering why it takes an MBA to realise all this, I couldn't stop myself from telling her that I felt it was no more than common sense. And she nodded in affirmation.
It is true that at some level each one of us is a manager. AND we learn the tricks and trades of being a manager over time, over experiences and over discussions. That implies you can't transform an innate non-manager (an operative, using the jargon) into a 'manager' over a period of two years. Also, a really good manager doesn't need a Harvard or an IIM degree to prove his worth.

The 8RF Game
I have been tagged by the candyman and the twilight fairy and inspired by Czar's 8RF.
After a certain delay, here I go.
Here are the rules:
1. Players start with 8 random facts about themselves.
2. Those who are tagged should post these rules and their 8 random facts.
3. Players should tag 8 other people and notify them they have been tagged.
8RF about me:
1. I started crying while I was watching the movie Rang De Basanti. I was with my friends and suddenly people around me started becoming sad, that made me sad and I generally started crying. Shame on me. I am not a man. Talking of masculinity, I feel No man should ever wear pink and refrain from wearing yellow. They are GAY colours. Women look best in Black and Pink.
2. I am scared of horror movies, I must not have seen more than a couple of them in my life.
3. My dad used to buy me hot-wheels cars whenever I came first in the monthly tests in my school. So I had a wonderful collection of them. One day I saw a program in Discovery channel and was inspired so much that I ripped open all the cars and later that day my dad ripped open a few layers of my skin. I was kid you see.. Class IV.
4. I used to get ALL Biology diagrams done by my mom. That she graduated with Botany and Zoology as her subjects was of immense help. But I did the human reproductive system diagrams on my own :D
5. When I was learning Sanskrit for the first time (in Class VI), the teacher was telling the class about the word 'kutra', meaning 'where'. I was absent that class. In the next class, she asked ME the meaning of kutra, not knowing the meaning and a reputation to keep upto I said ' Kutte ka Putra'. That apparently spread like wildfire in the school and all the teachers and students came to about this student who thinks kutra means kutte ka putra.
6. Somewhere in the seventh standard, I had a crush on my English teacher. Looking back (and knowing all the parameters of evaluation), I think she was a Bomb - Hot and sexy. I hate to believe that she is married. In my Class XI, I had a crush on my Computer Lab teacher (Her brother studies here in IITM :-S) she had a soothing personality and I loved that purity about her. I had also promised to take her on a world-tour. She is also married now.
7. Once I was playing cricket without wearing the gaurd. You would have obviously guessed what happened. Since that day, I have a fear at the back of mind that I mind be.. err.. impotent. I am yet to get an occasion to clear my doubts. This was in my tenth standard.
On another occasion the following year, I got hit by a rubber ball and it has changed the shape of my nose a little bit. :(
8. When I was a kid, I used to threaten mom that I will commit suicide if she bothers me too much. At other times, I threatened to run away from my home. I did run away on a couple of occasions, probably stayed out overnight once too.. I can't remember.
I tag: Dharik, Ugri, Bulby, Punchar, Sirisha, CB, Uss, Naresh.

BENGALOORU FOR YOU:
I am back to the the Insti. I have every right to be. After an eventful journey over the last three months, I feel good to be back here.
Looking back, they were the most wonderful summer holidays I have had in a long time. I was in Bangalore, famous for three things: I.T, Girls and Dogs. I got a taste of all the three (not literally you see). My intern has just helped me realise that I.T is not my domain. All the reduntant 'for' loops were a wee bit too much for the rather humble mechanical engineer within me. But I did 'go to work' every morning. For a good amount of time, I liked to believe I was a corporate :D. Coding is good, it's wonderful, In fact, that is keeps the wheels of the economy powered but it kinda sucks. The A.C cabin, the cubicles, the desktops, the googling and the Visual Studio - were just too good though.
Girls.. Ahem.. I am amongst the less fortunate of the lot to have been roaming around the malls of the garden city with a guy (Hi Uss), but none the less, we never let go of an opportunity to ogle at the good young things that walked past us. Somehow, Uss couldn't help being fixated at those things. At the end of the day, he would say "Yaar, zindagi mein ladki toh zarur honi chahiye". And when he saw HOT young things with apparent losers and hippies, he would do the VIP-ad "What's he got that I ain't got?". Well, at most times I was only echoing his sentiments. But there was a certain occasion when we did manage to get a real Hot young thing interested in us and she kept constantly staring at us. That we did not have the balls to even talk to her is another issue.
Bangalore is more famous for it's dogs than anything else. The Times of India is planning to bringing out something like a dog-bite update every week on the lines of Times Classifides. There are an enormous number of dogs and they make their presence felt all over the city and in the morning newspapers. That said, I was luckiy enough to come back bite-free. Dogs, they say are man's best friend. But I doubt the Bangalore-man would disagree.
Old habits die hard, that's Bengalooru for you.

THAT-WAS-THE-SEMESTER-THAT-WAS. >:-<
God, I can take it no more. Finally, I can see the light at the end of this tunnel. FOUR Months and innumerable classes later, I am on the verge of Breaking down. BUT I am not. It was an agonizing wait. It still is.
23 credits. This sem just sucked it out of me. I am glad, very glad that this Semester is over. I must admit the system sometimes just sucks up to you. You cant help but succumb to the pressures of the System. Classes. Labs. Assignments, Projects, Presentations, Term Papers, Quizzes, Submissions, Deadlines, Contests and Demonstrations. I am dead for all practical purposes. My mind is refusing any new connections, the server is not responding. Massive Shutdown is in progress. The Grey cells are History. The Processor has flared up.
Damn you Demon in the disguise of the Prof. You demand 75 percent attendance for that class of yours where its difficult to stay alive let alone awake. Your Incessant monotonous lectures are like the hum of the AC capable of putting to sleep even Lady Liberty in the US of A. That reference book which you refer, I have too. The library has n. So why bother dictating the same shit in class, neither you like it nor do I. Why teach the whole Root Locus method for months when a simple rlocus command in MATLAB7 can do it in a couple of clock cycles of my Dual Core. 8085, Yes that archaic Microprocessor my grandfather thought was old, why do you force me to mug up its Processor speed, Pin-out, Registers, Stacks, Pointers, size, weight, volume, density and its Gestation Period.
Why the f**k do you Mr old-bald-dickhead-IELab-Incharge call us to your lab? Just to say GET OUT? To give us a ZERO after the four months of fingering and fondling your Cathode Ray Oscilloscope. Five to Seven Thirty every Wednesday we were at your mercy, scared to part our lips for we feared your scathing remarks. Only If i could VETO, Veto.
Dynamics of Machinery, Enh?? The sort of enthusiasm that you show with that piece of limestone in your hand!!! I would radiate more energy while I sleep than you on the Dias. I know the Whitworth, I know the Pantograph and I know the IC Engine. I know not how you could radiate negative energy to shoo me off the class. THANKS for not taking Attendance. By the way, I know the CRANK, I know the CAM and I know the GEAR too.
Yes Ma'am. Charpitt's Equations. Simpson's, Gauss', Siedel's, Newton's. Everyone's Ma'am. UP THEIRS. I forgot to add Euler. Ya but you were a motherly Prof. You actually cared for the student's knowledge more than his attendance and grades. And SO did we Ma'am. Thanks for everything except the Math.
I can rant on.. endlessly. Thats because I have been there, done that. Better put - Thrown there, Forced to do that. This frustration had to come out somewhere. I could not go and tell the prof all this for he is gonna take 3 more credits next sem. I could not tell my peers for they had better versions of the same. It all boils down to this day. I will never have to go through the fourth semester of IIT in my life EVER again. Am I glad or what.
4th Semester. **Gun Shot** Happiness all around.
Curtain Closes.
#ADVERTISEMENT: Join 5th Sem for an even more painful, agonizing, strenous and miserable semester. #
PS: The Author of this post is a frustrated IITian who had 8 full-course exams in 10 days. Slept exactly 29 minutes between 6.16 am and 6.45 am everyday. He also got a ZERO in the aforementioned lab. He has made full use of the 75 pc attendance rule and was having 75.00 in two subjects, slightly less in a couple and he loves the two profs who dint take attendance.

Tuesday, May 1
I was in awe of her. I always wanted her. I would long for her day in and day out but she was elusive, she would not be mine. Whenever I saw her with others, my heart skipped a beat. Her very thought would liven up my mood and my passion for her would be uncontrollable. I tried and I tried. I failed miserably. My peers told me that the time was not ripe enough for me to have her. I would have to wait. The wait was excruciatingly long.
Time was moving at its own pace. The day of reckoning arrived. After all the wait came the jittery moments, one which I could see but not control. It went to my parents, there were heated discussions. Ultimately they said its my decision. I stood firm, told them everything that I had to. I had my way. It ended the way I wanted it to.
I got engaged to her. I had to shell out 50000 bucks but I knew that the returns were immeasurable. Her parents had readily agreed. In fact, when I went with the proposal to them, they were more than happy. No questions asked. Only the formalities had to be completed. But there was a catch. They would get their daughter engaged to me but would not let me touch her till we got married. There would be no Marriage ceremony. She would come to my hostel room as and when the new Semester began and stay with me in my room forever and move around with me whenever I need and wherever I want her to. Although it was difficult for me at that point of time to accept these clauses but I did. I know not why but I did.
The new semester began. I was more than looking forward to it. Then came she. Beautiful Elegant and Homely. The charm and radiance never had I seen and felt ever. All my passions came spurting out. She was mine. Only mine. I could now make her sit on my lap and make her dance to my tune. My fingers and hands all over her as her face lights up with a smile everytime I touch her. I love her and she loves me too. We are comfortably married and living a healthy married life.

Rid The Clutter on your Taskbar.
I am a utility software freak and am always loafing around in the lanes of the internet to find something useful and new. Recently I came across this software called ExplorerXP. It is a wonderful File manager and one-of-its-kind. It allows Tabbed browsing of various folders on the system ( Yes, just like Firefox). It was exactly the kind of software i was looking for to clean my taskbar of the numerous folder windows that cropped up.
The best part about it. Small.. ahem Tiny 410 kb only. Plus its a Freeware. Not that it really matters in India at this point of time :)
